RE: Biography
I've been incarcerated since the age of: twenty-three (23) and what has touched me the most is how prisoners cry out for help and no one hears or seems to show concern.
I've witnessed a man lying on the floor while doctors unsuccess¬fully tried to save his life. His suicide note read that he just wanted to' be apart of his son's life. I felt sadness from a friend who died kicking on his cell door while having an asthma attack, be¬cause the institutional count meant more than his life and pleads for medical attention. To society these men are the forgotten and stereo-typed as outcast, their stories unheard of. But to a child and mother, they were fathers and sons. There are men and women incarcerated allover the United States that die, from a lack of hope, whether the cause being suicide, violence or neglect.
On the other hand there are the compassionate and brilliant minds of prisoners who dedicated their time to helping the unfortunate in society, such as those who teamed up with Red Cross to donate their time and money to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; and those who worked effortlessly to prove the innocence of eleven year old Lecresha Murray. The prisoners who founded "Amazing Gospel Souls Inc." a faith based organization that reaches beyond the prison walls to aid and assist those in need of food and spiritual guidance. These contributions weren't printed in your local news¬papers or magazines, but they are real.
Prior to my incarceration, I was lost in a life of crime. I was raised in a middle class urban environment by my mother and step¬father, who tried to instill in me values of getting a good education and being responsible; however, .due,: to. the unstructured lifestyles, because of the social ills within my community, I became exposed to a way of living that fascinated me causing me to reject the moral

principles of my parents and sort guidance and acceptance outside of my home.
This led to the beginning of a downward spiral where all of my troubles and crimes were a direct result of vanity and wanting to be the center of attention, because among my peers the glory and the shame were often misplaced. One was honored by their bad actions, while the good went unnoticed, solely due to our ignorance.
Ultimately I developed a distorted view of manhood through it all, becoming addicted to a lifestyle that led me to prison to serve a life sentence, confused and uneducated.
Thirteen years later, through my trials, tribulations, tears and sorrow} I wanted something new and better for myself and my peers. I began, to realize that love and support is the key to inspire rehabilitation within these prison walls. So I prayed and God answered with a vision. This vision is “A Better Way Of Life" (B.W.L.), a non-profit organization who's mission is to de¬sign programs and initiatives to address the developing needs of prisoners and 'their families, as well as offer love and support and promote education. As it stands (B.W.L) is proudly engaged in donating school supplies, educational toys and books to children of incarcerated parents. This is my debt to humanity. I am the author of two fictional novels and currently working on a book of collections of inspirational advice to encourage and give hope to our youths. Moreover, my biggest achievement is furthering my education.
I am now thirty-eight (38) years old and my perception of a man has changed. Today I strive to be honest, respectful and honorable in all my affairs. My motivation being creating new ideas for the benefit of others. Thanks to God, He's kept me human with a com¬passionate heart through my struggles, which allows me to continue to believe in prayer. Certainly through prayer and faith my family and I are bless with the strength to carry out God's Plan.
My prayer for society is that we learn to love and show concern

for one another in spite of status and the many stereo-types of the world. For those who made mistakes in life, there is no greater teacher than God's Experiences. Learn and grow. I did, surely you
can.
